My name is Kevin Yaiko and I am a high school math teacher serving as a missionary in an overseas missions school in Budapest, Hungary.
My first year out of college I worked as an aide in Summit Educational Resources, a school for severe autistic children. My first math teaching job after that was in a juvenile detention center, and after working there for a year, I taught high school math for a couple of years in Newark High School outside of Columbus, Ohio. I have now been working at the International Christian School of Budapest for 5 years teaching Algebra, Pre-Calculus, and Personal Finance. I am also the high school boys varsity basketball coach.
I am married and have two children ages 4 and 2. Hanging out at home with them is my favorite way to spend my time.
I enjoy using technology both at home and at work. I recently discovered WiDi (wireless display) so I can stream wirelessly from my laptop to my TV. Living overseas we get all of our TV online, so it has been a wonderful toy to be able to stream iTunes and ESPN college pass on to our TV without a cable running through our living room!
In the classroom I use a computer projector with Texas Instruments Smartview software on a daily basis. This is a great way to teach how to use graphing calculators. I also use PowerPoint as a presentation tool and Excel for analyzing data. Recently I have been using the app Airmouse to run my computer on the iPod while standing in front of the room. That has really freed me up to move around the room and still use the programs mentioned above.
